Ivan Jurečka

He was born in 1984 in Banská Bystrica. For six years he worked as a professional soldier in the Slovak army. He began studying art at the Academy of Arts in Bánská Bystrica, majoring in acting. He continued his studies at JAMU, Brno, and after his graduation he became a member of the international ensemble of Continuo Theatre. In this theater, known for it’s strong visual poetics, Ivo learned to work with different kinds of fabric and materials which led him to his contemporary work: he uses gramophone discs in which he carves different motifs, mainly portraits. He also uses vinyl discs as a material for creating 3D sculptures. His initial motivation was the question of different kinds of values: of things, human lives, thoughts as well as the vinyl records used against their original purpose. Ivo is inspired by the events that are important for us as mankind, nation and individuals.
